Red Wings Remain Perfect In Shootouts
After dominating Vancouver for two periods Thursday, outskating the Canucks by a wide margin and tilting the rink for a 30-11 edge in shots on goal, the Red Wings somehow found themselves tied after regulation time.
But when the game went into a shootout, the Wings knew they had the upper hand. Their strong goaltending, coupled with their array of skilled forwards, has made them unbeatable in shootouts this season.
Their success continued, as Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Hudler scored shootout goals to lift the Wings to a 4-3 win at Rogers Arena.
Detroit improved to 6-0 in shootouts and moved five points ahead of Vancouver and Nashville in the conference race.
"When you've won a few in a shootout, you're a confident bunch," Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom said. "(Goaltender Jimmy Howard) has been playing real well in the shootouts and guys have been scoring some goals. It's been working really well for us."
