Random Thought's By Matt Dery 4-20-11

1. Not sure why I gave the Tigers game my attention last night, but I did. Ick. One of the worst games I have ever seen them play under Jim Leyland. A pair of throwing errors, walk after walk after walk and all of this against a very bad Seattle team. They will really miss Victor Martinez over the next 2-3 weeks.

2. Meantime, Brennan Boesch is hitting .333 and really is playing with a ton of energy. Boesch (As Pat Caputo pointed out the other night) is really the one home-grown guy on this team with tremendous upside. His bat is very important in a lineup right now featuring tons of windmills.

3. The Pistons have been very quiet over the last few days for good reason. Joe Dumars and his staff continue to sit down and go over every little basketball-related item with Tom Gores and his crew. Gores is a very bright businessman and bounces ideas off of many trusted confidants.

4. I am very happy for Lions fans. Getting a Monday Night Football game at Ford Field in October is great and it shows that the nation wants to see some of their young stars. Now, though, it is time to win. No more 6-10s and "we are close" routines. Win. I really hope they go defense with pick #13 next Thursday. Martin Mayhew will address the media tomorrow.

5. I got the opportunity to drive a Mercedes C class from Mercedes-Benz of Rochester the other day. Wow. I am not a big "car guy" per se, but had so much fun and Chris and the staff there do a great job. I will be doing some spots for them during Valenti and Foster, so tune in.
