PTA Pushes For Anti-Bullying Law, Against School Cuts
LANSING (WWJ) - About two hundred members of the Michigan Parent Teacher Association and their supporters gathered in Lansing, Thursday, to push for anti-bullying legislation.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with the group's Executive Director, Sandra York, at the "Rally For Our Children" at the Capitol.
"We are one of four states that does not have anti-bullying legislation. We are so behind the game on this. It's time for adults to stand up and do something for their kids," York said.
The PTA is also demonstrating against state funding cuts to K-12 education.
"We have some clear issues here, impacting our children in the state, that need to be resolved," York said. "We cannot necessarily do that by just cutting budgets. It's not going to fix our economic problems in Michigan," she said.
Governor Rick Snyder has said his $45 billion cost-cutting budget calls for a "shared sacrifice," and includes tough decisions that will help fix the state's massive budget shortfall.
