Protest To Highlight The Struggle Of Middle Class Held Outside Cobo
DETROIT (WWJ) - Members of the Autoworkers Caravan will staged their annual protest Sunday afternoon outside Cobo Center to draw attention to economic challenges still being faced by middle class families.
The demonstration has brought attention to job and wage cuts and plant closings in recent years.
Organizers say the uptick in the auto industry has been at the expense of workers who sacrificed working conditions and wages.
The advocates for the rank-and-file is seen as instrumental in pushing the UAW into bargaining wage increases for second-tier workers who are paid less than workers with greater seniority.
