Potential First Round Picks For The Lions And Pistons

Spent this week watching some potential first round picks for the Detroit Lions before the April 26th draft. Sitting tight at 23 in the first round this year should serve the Lions well. It's exciting to talk about moving up to get LSU corner Morris Claiborne. Not quite as exciting, but talked about even more than moving up, is the idea of moving down and accumulating a bunch more picks. Claiborne looks great, but so do the next cut of corners and safety's. They will all be picked in the first round.

The Lions biggest need is defensive back. The good news is that four defensive backs: Alabama's Dre Kilpatrick and Mark Barron plus South Carolina's Stephon Gilmore and North Alabama's Janoris Jenkins look to be slotted in the 15-25 range.

Former high school quarterbacks Kilpatrick at 6-3 and Gilmore at 6-1 look like they could play anywhere along the back four in the pros. Barron and Jenkins jump out at anybody watching them as classic stud safety and corner prospects. There has been some well discussed baggage from Kilpatrick and even more from Jenkins but from a football need/talent standpoint select any of these four guys and the Lions hit a home run in the first round of the draft.

NCAA Tourney predictions: If you've been following me on twitter @dennisfithian or reading my blogs during the NFL season you will notice that I've been on fire against the number. I'll go with the dogs again this weekend but will go with the favorites playing on Monday night.

Louisville +9 against Kentucky. Kansas +2 verses Ohio State. I will take Kentucky to cover a double digit spread in the championship game.

If I was making up the Pistons draft board heading into Final Four weekend my draft board would look like this:

1. Anthony Davis Kentucky -- If the cat could put on 20-30 pounds he will be the next Dwight Howard.
2. Michael Kidd Gilchrist Kentucky -- MKG think D. Wade then pull the trigger
3. Thomas Robinson Kansas -- Too much athletiscm/power combo to pass up
4. Cody Zeller Indiana -- Can score on anybody anytime including Anthony Davis
5. Tyler Zeller UNC -- Not the scorer of his younger brother but can do everything at the next level
6. Jared Sullinger OSU -- If he measures 6-9 or above I'll be happy to take him. Over rated as the number one pick but good selection here.

Put all the numbers you want out there about Miguel Cabrera making this amount of errors compared to what he brings to the plate offensively. Nothing deflates a team or pitching staff more than giving up extra outs. I think the experiment at third ends before everybody else does. Early May.
