Port Huron To Mackinac Boat Race Underway

PORT HURON (WWJ) - The annual Bayview Port Huron to Mackinac boat race is underway this weekend, with over 200 boats sailing toward the big island.

In year's past, that would have been about the extent of the fun in Port Huron, but not this year.  That's because the Blue Water Festival celebration has returned ... and so have the crowds.

Marci Fogal is President of the Blue Water Convention and Visitors Bureau spoke with WWJ about the festival.

"Three years ago the downtown would have been quiet, but because the festival has been extended throughout the evening, we expect 75,000 people to be in the downtown area, 20 bands, 3 stages, a lighted boat parade, it's definitely a sight to see," said Fogal.

This weekend marks the 87th running of the Port Huron to Mackinac Island boat race.
