Police: Woman Loses Money In Quest For Monkey
BATTLE CREEK (WWJ/AP) - Police in Battle Creek have advised a woman that she shouldn't expect to see a monkey, or her money.
A 25-year-old woman contacted police Tuesday to report she lost $350 trying to buy a monkey from the African country of Cameroon.
The woman told police that she and her roommate were looking for a pet and decided on a monkey, the Battle Creek Enquirer reported. The woman said they found what they thought was a reputable website and received pictures and information about monkeys.
The woman claims she was told that the monkey was $350, but she could have it for $50. She told police that she sent the cash, but never received the monkey.
After more back and forth, the woman shelled out $300 over two separate payments, but her contact apparently wanted more money for a cage, license and shots.
Authorities are trying to gather more information on the case, but have warned the woman that she's likely the victim of a scam.
