Police Still Searching For Redford Township Man's Killer

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police have released a composite sketch of the suspect believed to be responsible for killing a 61-year-old foster dad in the Woodbridge Historic District on Detroit's east side.

Christopher Best was found shot to death around 7:20 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 outside of a residence in the 4500 block of Avery, between Forest Avenue and Lysander Street.

Police say Best was at the home to pay his friend $1,000 for doing some contractual work at his Redford Township residence. When Best arrived at the location, he was allegedly approached by an unknown gunman who fired multiple shots from a long gun. Police say the suspect robbed Best of an undisclosed amount of money and an iPhone before escaping in an SUV.

The gunman is described as a black male approximately 23 to 24 years of age, 5-feet 6-inches tall with a medium build and dark complexion. The suspect also has scars on both sides of his face. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a hoodie and had a five o'clock shadow.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone who has information regarding the crime should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or Detroit police at 313-596-2260. All calls and cash rewards are completely anonymous.
