Police: Icy Roads Play Role In Southwestern Michigan Crash
BALTIMORE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say icy conditions appear to have played a role in a southwestern Michigan crash that killed a 73-year-old motorist.
The head-on crash Saturday afternoon in Barry County's Baltimore Township claimed the life of Robert Mayberry reports WOOD-TV. Sheriff's officials say a vehicle traveling north on M-37 went into a southbound lane to avoid a crash and struck Mayberry's vehicle.
Mayberry was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Roads were icy after a weekend storm moved through the state.
Saturday was the most mild day of the weekend-- we flirted with 30 degree temperatures as snow fell, and then stopped-- and then melted and froze again. Sunday night, we're in for a real dip of the mercury says Accuweather meteorologist Steve Travis.
"Tonight's going to be bitterly cold," says Travis. "With a clear sky - we'll drop to two below zero -- the record low being six below zero -- so it's going to be a dangerous cold tonight and into tomorrow morning."
