Point-Shaving Scheme Brings Defendants To Federal Court
DETROIT (WWJ) - A former University of Toledo football player plans to plead guilty in a point-shaving scheme from several years ago.
Harvey "Scooter" McDougle Jr. is scheduled to appear in federal court in Detroit on July 18. McDougle was one of seven Rockets basketball or football players charged in a conspiracy to take money from Detroit gamblers to influence the score of various games from 2003 through 2005.
Two co-defendants, former hoops star Sammy Villegas and ex-football player Adam Cuomo, have already pleaded guilty.
In December, defense lawyers acknowledged that agreements had been signed or were in the works.
