Pitchers Won't Use Protective Caps This Season

In the wake of the life-threatening skull fracture suffered by Brandon McCarthy last season, MLB has been working to develop and test protective headgear for pitchers. However, as William Weinbaum of Outside the Lines reports, no padded caps will be used during the 2013 season.

"If I had a product that passed [high-speed impact] tests," MLB senior VP Dan Halem told Weinbaum, "it'd be out there tomorrow."
