Pistons Sale Back On Front Burner?

Published reports say billionaire investor and Michigan native Tom Gores has entered into a 30 day exclusive window to negotiate a purchase of the Detroit Pistons.

Neither the team nor Platinum Equity, the investment firm owned by Gores, would comment on reports in the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.

Gores grew up in the Flint area and attended Michigan State University.  He lives in California. A self-professed sports fan, Gores openly expressed an interest in buying the Pistons last year.

Gores has an estimated net worth of 2.2 billion dollars, according to Forbes magazine.

Shortly after the current NBA season began, Pistons owner Karen Davidson entered into an exclusive negotiating period with Tigers and Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch, but no deal was crafted.

Forbes has estimated the Pistons to be worth 479 million dollars, fourth highest among NBA franchises.
