Pistons And Tigers Look Ahead

By: Matt Dery

1. I attended last night's "State of the Pistons" event at The Palace and found it to be very educational. The organization is making a clear effort to reach out to its fan base once again and let them in on their plan. The plan is pretty simple: Win. But, with that being said, Tom Gores wants people on board who share his core values. Joe Dumars shares them, and so does Lawrence Frank. The upcoming draft is huge and this team needs more talent added, period. You can see the made-for-tv special on Thursday on Fox Sports Detroit.

2. I think Tigers fans need to take a deep breath. While the team has struggled out of the gate and played poorly at 18-20, there is still a long way to go. Detroit is brutal defensively and we knew that parts of the bullpen were below-average at best, but, the hitting is what is mind boggling. These guys will eventually hit and Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder will soon dominate again. You just hope it is sooner rather than later. They have to carry this team.

Period.

Look at their salaries.

3. It is interesting to now hear the fans boo Ryan Raburn down at Comerica Park. I understood the fans' frustration with Brandon Inge because he opened his mouth and then failed to deliver. But with Raburn, what do you all really expect? This is a 31 yr old career-backup who is playing out of position. Yes, is .157 a brutal batting average? Of course! But I feel that in this instance, the fans booing him is a bit unfair. He is probably not a starter in this league and the fact that the organization doesn't have anybody to push him at second base is not his fault. That is on the front office.
