Phil Coke Leaves Tampa Bay Game Injured
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Fans at Comerica watched as Tigers starting pitcher Phil Coke left the game injured in the fourth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.
With the Rays up 1-0 in the fourth, Coke left the game and Charlie Furbush was pushed into his major league debut Monday night.
Coke hobbled off the field after appearing to hurt his right ankle while attempting to field a bunt. Zobrist laid down a perfect bunt on the left side of the infield. Coke got off the mound, slipped on the grass and seemed to injure his ankle.
Coke retired the first nine batters he faced before giving up a leadoff walk in the fourth.
He was replaced by Charlie Furbush in his major league debut. The highly touted left-hander was called up Saturday from Triple-A Toledo.
Furbush started off by walking Sean Rodriguez to load the bases, then got out of the one-out jam by striking out Felipe Lopez and Kelly Shoppach.
The Tigers went on to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 on Monday night.
