Pat Caputo: Trade Makes Tigers Better, But At What Cost?
The Tigers did get better near the trade line, but how much better?
And at what cost?
About the only thing that was answered Saturday, when they acquired pitchers Doug Fister and David Pauley from the Seattle Mariners, is just how desperate the Tigers are to win the American League Central title.
The answer: Pretty desperate.
Maybe that's a good thing. 2006 seems like a long time ago doesn't it?
But there is a flipside to this deal.
Now, the trade sounds great in theory, at least the glass half-full one.
The part where Fister has a low ERA and excellent WHIP (walks per inning pitched). The one where he has literally been the victim of the worst run support in the league.
