Pat Caputo- Too Little, Too Late For Tigers

This season began with relatively low expectations for the Tigers.

The Twins were the better team, even if they lost closer Joe Nathan for the season because of injury. Minnesota has a decidedly better-hitting lineup, and have certainly proven to have the Tigers' number down through the years.

The White Sox revamped their roster, but it wasn't necessarily in a bad way. Jake Peavy was there to lead a solid rotation. The Chicago lineup seemed at least equal that of the Tigers.

So, as July winds down with the Tigers in third place in the American League Central — not that close to either the Twins or the White Sox in the standings, but not that far away, either — it shouldn't be much of a surprise.
