As the Tigers return from baseball's All-Star break, they will be fighting more than just the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins in the American League Central race.

The Tigers will be taking on the past.

The Tigers have been poor finishers. They have usually been in good position at this time of the year since Jim Leyland became their manager in 2006. They have, however, invariably faded down the stretch.

If I were to put odds on the Tigers winning the division at this point, they would be about equal to that of the White Sox and Twins. No better. No worse.
