PAT CAPUTO: Yankees Will Only Be Unbeatable If Tigers Continue To Hurt Themselves
The New York Yankees aren't unbeatable.
Not by a longshot. Their starting pitching isn't that good. Their lineup, top-to-bottom, isn't unquestionably better than that of the Tigers.
The American League Division Series isn't over just because the Yankees routed the Tigers, 9-3, in Game 1 Friday-turned-to-Saturday because of a suspension due to rain.
There is little doubt the Tigers must play better, however, or the 5-game series will be over before it really gets started.
The Tigers were lax in Game 1. Little things killed their chances. Bobbled balls. Wild pitches. Derek Jeter, a right-handed batter, hits the opposite way more than he pulls the ball, so why was Tigers' second baseman Ryan Raburn covering second base when he was at bat -- and the Yankees put on the hit-and-run? That wasn't the best slide by Alex Avila.
