It was the nickname George Anderson was given as a minor league baseball player during the 1950s, presumably because he was such a "spark plug."
It was a great nickname, one he fully came to embrace, although he admitted it took awhile.
"When I first heard it, I thought they were talking to the family dog," he said.
It was a funny line. There were so many others that came from Sparky Anderson during his 76 years of life.
