Pat Caputo: Red Wings Still Control Their Own Destiny
As thrilling as the Red Wings' victory was Friday at Joe Louis Arena, the aftermath only brings stark reality.
Friday's win, taken by itself, only saved the Red Wings a little face.
Very little.
They are hardly in the driver's seat in their Western Conference semifinal playoff series against the San Jose Sharks. The Red Wings remain just an inch or so away from being run over by the bus.
The Red Wings have lost their last four playoff games at San Jose in 2010 and 2011. There is no tangible reason to believe Game 5 Sunday will be different.
The Sharks didn't capitulate Friday — they rallied from a three-goal deficit to nearly win the game.
But if the Red Wings were to somehow win tonight, this series would take on an entirely different tone.
