Pat Caputo: Proposed MLB Realignment Only Makes Sense If Interleague Play Is Eliminated

I have been a longstanding proponent of the following cliche/theory about baseball:

"If it isn't broke, don't fix it."

Which leads to the obvious question about Major League Baseball as it looks to its future and a new Collective Bargaining Agreement to be negotiated in the not-too-distant future:

"Is baseball broken?"

I don't think so. The CBA expires in December, and there is little of the rancor baseball has experienced in the past with its Players Association, or that is currently conflicting the NFL and the NBA.

The game is reasonably healthy. Most teams have been able to balance the books. The steroids era has passed. Pitching actually is the biggest factor in the game again.

However, there remain a few fractures here and there. One of them is regarding the current alignment of the leagues.
