When there is a labor dispute between ownership and players in a major professional sports league, nobody wins.

The players lose gigantic paycheck after gigantic paycheck. They are out of the spotlight, so endorsements dry up.

Owners are in the business of making money. They can't if nobody is buying tickets, ads and signs in their venues, food and merchandise at their concession stands and the networks stop paying rights fees.

And the basic issue in these labor stoppages inevitably come down to one fundamental item — how to divide the revenue pie.
