PAT CAPUTO: For Michigan, It's The First Step In Right Direction

And so, after all that time, we can finally come to the following conclusions. 


1. Rich Rodriguez will no longer be the head football coach at the University of Michigan. He was officially fired Wednesday.
2. Jim Harbargh will not be the next head football coach at Michigan. Athletic director David Brandon all but flatout said so Wednesday.
Michigan fans instead heard the three words they've come to dread in recent years: "A coaching search." 
It's the first week of January. Seems a little late, doesn't it? 
The idea here should be to get it right. 
But what is right? 
While Harbaugh never seemed to be Plan A, at least according to Brandon's statements Wednesday, he clearly was the choice of the people. He was their Plan A.
