Pat Caputo- 600 Home Runs Meaningless? Makes Me Want To Cry

Baseball is the game of magic numbers.

Here's a few: 300, 3,000, .400, 714, 755, 60, 61, 56.

Even the most casual baseball fan understands those numbers represent mileposts for a pitcher to reach the Hall of Fame (career victories), a hitter to reach the Hall of Fame (career hits), something that hasn't been accomplished in the major leagues since Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941, the number of home runs Babe Ruth hit in his career, the number of home runs Henry Aaron hit in his career, the number of home runs Ruth hit in 1927, the number of home runs Roger Maris hit in 1961, the length of Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak in 1941.

Used to be 500 home runs in a career was one of those magical numbers, until it became common place during the so-called steroids era. But 600 home runs falling in the same category?
