One In Custody, Another At Large In Kroger Robbery

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - Birmingham police have one armed robbery suspect in custody and are looking for a second gunman who robbed the Kroger Store at Maple and Woodward late Monday night.

Investigators said the thieves jumped over the office counter, went into the security office and forced an employee at gunpoint to open the safe.   The suspects filled a trash bag with cash and ran.  The pair was spotted in a car on Maple Road near Coolidge where they ditched the car and took off.

A 20-year-old man from Detroit was arrested a short time later and was expeted to be arraigned Tuesday or Wesdnesay in 46th District Court. Police said he has no criminal record.

His partner is still on the loose. An investigation is ongoing.
