Novi Gas Line Capped: Repairs Still Underway

NOVI (WWJ) - Utility crews are repairing a natural gas line ruptured by a contractor doing road and sewer work in Novi.

It took hours to cap the gas line that was ruptured at Main Street and Novi in Novi. CMS Energy spokeswoman Debra Dodd says the six-inch plastic gas main was hit about noon Tuesday.

Several businesses were evacuated and gas service was lost to about 165 customers, including residents at a nearby apartment complex.

"After the repairs are made we will have service personnel that will go around with the apartment facilities maintenance people and we will make sure pilots are re-lit safely," said Dodd.

Dodd goes on to say it is the construction season. They expect there will be similar accidents until the season ends.
