New York 9, Tigers 3

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WWJ/AP) - Picking up where they left off in a suspended game, the Detroit Tigers lose to the New York Yankees 9-3 during Game One of the ALDS series on Saturday night.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers were unable to power up any type of offense and drop the first of the best of five series against the Yankees.

The rain let up allowing Game 1 to continue, but this time it was the Yankees who poured it on Detroit.

Ivan Nova shut out Detroit in 6 1/3 relief innings and Robinson Cano hit a grand slam to power the Bronx Bombers to the win.

In total, Cano hit a grand slam and drove in six runs, rookie Nova pitched brilliantly into the ninth inning in an unusual relief appearance and the New York Yankees shook off a 23-hour rain delay to beat the Detroit Tigers.
A day after rain wiped out aces Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia after only 1 1/2 innings, the game resumed in the bottom of the second. No national anthem, all Yankees.
Cano barely missed a homer on his tiebreaking double in the fifth and New York broke it open with a six-run sixth against Doug Fister. Brett Gardner had a two-run single with two outs to make it 4-1 and, moments later, Cano connected off Al Alburquerque for his fourth grand slam since Aug. 11.
