MSU Student Charged With False Hockey Team Assault Claim

SALINE (CBS Detroit) An allegedly false claim about a hockey team attack landed Michigan State University student Brandon Philipe-George Carmack, 20, facing a bevy of charges.

Carmack was charged by the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office with two counts of assault and battery, one count of domestic assault and battery, one count of filing a false police report of a felony, and one count of stalking. He was arraigned Wednesday in the 54-B District Court, with bond set at $10,000. A preliminary examination has been set for September.

"East Lansing Police Department is to be commended for their prompt and thorough investigation which was undeterred by the information that was placed in the public domain," prosecutors said in a press release.

Police haven't released information about what happened to spark the charges against Carmack, but he initially alleged he was savagely beaten in a home on campus by a group of up to 12 students, including members of the MSU hockey team.

Carmack somehow suffered a broken nose, black eyes and a deep gash on his head.
