Mother Of Woman Killed By Husband Wants More Police Body Cameras

KENTWOOD, Mich. (AP) - The western Michigan mother of a woman killed by her husband — who was fatally shot by police —  wants more police body cameras.

The Grand Rapids Press reports Wednesday that Katie Jackson has forgiven 43-year-old Lamont Gulley for fatally stabbing her daughter, Casey Kempker. Gulley threatened police with a knife and tried to stab a police dog when he was shot twice on April 8 in Kentwood.

Jackson says police played the roles of "judge, jury and executioner" in shooting Gulley, who suffered from mental illness. She described the footage of his shooting as "horrifying."

A Grand Rapids police officer's body camera captured the incident. Jackson says she's concerned there wouldn't be video evidence without Grand Rapids assisting Kentwood police.

Kent County prosecutors cleared an officer of wrongdoing.
