Missing 6-year-old boy found safe at neighbor's home in Madison Heights, city says

Police and neighbors in Madison Heights, Michigan, spent several hours on Sunday night searching for a missing 6-year-old boy who has since been found safe at a neighbor's home.

Johnathan Skattebo was last seen near the 28000 block of Hales Street around 3:30 p.m., police said. A description of the child, whom officials said is autistic and non-verbal, circulated around the community. Police also sent a local emergency alert. Police said in a social media post on Sunday night that he was seen on a Ring doorbell camera walking west on Jenifer Avenue toward Park Court.

Around midnight, about an hour after police asked residents to end the search and stay inside so that K-9s could search the area, a family that was not home at the time arrived home and found the boy in the shower of their house.

The homeowners had left a door unlocked that evening, which is how authorities believe he got inside.

The residents called police.

The weather was cold, but he was believed to be wearing a blue and black winter coat and matching blue and black boots at the time he went missing.

Johnathan appeared to be in good condition after he was found, authorities said. He is now back with his parents.
