Michigan To Get $161 Million For High Speed Rail

About $161 million in federal money is headed to Michigan for high-speed rail projects - including a 135-mile corridor between Kalamazoo and Dearborn. Federal officials said Monday that $150 million will be used by the Michigan Department of Transportation to buy and restore tracks in that corridor.

An additional $7.9 million will be spent on a project servicing Ann Arbor and Detroit, while $3.2 million will be used to plan a Chicago-Detroit corridor.

The money will be awarded through the federal Transportation Department.

Officials announced in September that Michigan would get $3.6 million in federal stimulus funds to begin rehabilitating a railroad station in Battle Creek.
