Michigan Rep. Kerry Bentivolio To Run As Write-In

LANSING (AP) - U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio says he plans to run as a write-in candidate in the race for his current seat in a suburban Detroit district.

The freshman Republican from the 11th District said he expects to file in Lansing on Friday. He lost the August primary to Republican lawyer and businessman David Trott by 33 percentage points.

Bentivolio says he's trying to encourage people to turn out to vote in November for Republicans including U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land. He says the write-in campaign isn't meant to derail Trott, who is running against Democratic counterterrorism expert Bobby McKenzie for the Republican-dominated district.

Bentivolio says he won't endorse Trott because he "slandered and libeled" Bentivolio during the primary. He says he was left feeling "a little bitter" and "betrayed."
