Michigan Man Sues Over Cost Of Movie Snacks

LIVONIA (CBS Detroit) Reclining in a theater seat with a 64-ounce vat of Coke and matching popcorn will set a movie buff back these days -- way back -- and one local man doesn't want to take it anymore.

Joshua Thompson of Livonia filed a lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court alleging his local AMC Theater gouges customers. He told the Detroit Free Press he hopes his lawsuit, based on anti-price-gouging laid out in the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, forces theaters statewide to slash prices.

Most local theaters charge $10-$13 for the large popcorn and pop combo, theater boxes of candy range from $3 to $5 each.

The suit seeks refunds for customers who can prove they were overcharged and a civil penalty against theater chains.
