Michigan Emergency Manager Repeal Drive Continues

LANSING (AP) - A coalition trying to repeal a Michigan law giving state-appointed emergency managers more power over financially troubled cities and schools continues an attempt to make the November 2012 ballot.

Activists have a few more months to submit more than 161,000 valid voter signatures to put the issue on the ballot. The group says Friday it so far has verified 130,000 signatures out of the more than 200,000 collected on petitions.

The coalition called Stand Up for Democracy says the Republican-backed law approved earlier this year is a power grab by Lansing politicians.
There's also a lawsuit seeking to overturn the law.

Gov. Rick Snyder supports the new emergency manager law. He has asked the Michigan Supreme Court to directly handle the case to limit the time spent on appeals.
