Memorial Day Message From Veterans Affairs Directorate

LANSING (WWJ) - Since the beginning of Memorial Day, America's and Michigan's citizens have paid tribute to its sons and daughters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Mr. Jason Allen, the director of Michigan's Veterans Affairs Directorate, encourages this proud, historical tradition.

"We must remember and acknowledge the debt we owe to these men and women. We must never take for granted their contributions and sacrifice," Allen said in a statement.

Over 200 Michigan men and women have died in service to the nation in Operations Enduring Freedom Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn.

Their memory and graves will be honored this Memorial Day with those from Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, the Spanish American War and Civil War.

"We also take this opportunity to remember the men and women who have returned home or continue to serve. They are family, friends and neighbors.
We recognize these brave Americans who have executed the difficult missions required to protect, restore and build democracy throughout the world," added Allen.
