Matt Dery's Daily Update 8-22-11

The first place Tigers begin a 7 game road trip tonight in Tampa and they have their ace on the hill in Justin Verlander. JV going for his 19th win tonight and rested after getting an extra day between starts. Tigers have won 2 in a row and now hold a 4 ½ game lead over the Indians in the Central. Jeff Niemann goes for Tampa. The Rays have won 5 in a row and are 13 games over 00.

Lions back to work today in Allen Park and the team having to put the kybosh on reports that Titus Yong is hurt again. The rookie wideout appeared to have aggravated a hamstring today but Jim Schwartz says Young got 34 reps at practice today and then was pulled. Jahvid Best missed his second straight practice today with what is believed to be a concussion but Schwartz is hopeful to get the RB back on the field tomorrow.
