Matt Dery's Daily Update 12-23-10

Wild story out of Columbus Ohio, the Buckeyes may be heading into next season with a new QB as Terrell Pryor and 4 other OSU football players were busted by the NCAA for receiving improper benefits. Pryor, Boom Herron, Devir Posey and 2 other players sold their Big Ten championship rings, jerseys and other items which are of course against NCAA rules. The NCAA has suspended these players for the first 5 games of next season which includes game 5 against Michigan State. Pryor and the 4 can play in the upcoming Sugar Bowl, though, because the NCAA says the student athletes did not receive the proper education on the matter. OSU and AD Gene Smith says the University will appeal. Buckeye alum and ESPN analyst Kirk Herstreit believes that no Pryor for OSU could be a good thing.

MSU AD Mark Hollis says that the school has sold its 12,500 tickets to the Capital One Bowl and that he expects around 25,000 State fans at the game.

Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz saying after practice today that nothing has changed and that he'll take his starting QB decision Sunday before the team takes on the Dolphins on the road. Drew Stanton and Shaun Hill split the reps in practice today.
