March For Babies Kicks Off April 29th At WSU

DETROIT (WWJ) - The largest fundraiser for the March of Dimes is taking place in metro Detroit next weekend, for the first time, March for Babies will be held in Midtown.

Dr. Joel Kahn spoke with WWJ about the event and why it's so important that people get involved:

"One out of every eight babies born in Detroit is born premature. It puts the infant at a disadvantage for all kinds of health problems that can last their whole life," said Kahn. "There is much research to do and much successful initiatives to keep babies where they belong longer and we're shooting for that 39th week if possible and that's the whole purpose."

"There is exciting research that come out last year from the Detroit Medical Center - Wayne State University ... a new innovation to help mothers keep their babies longer before birth. We need more breakthroughs like that," said Kahn.

March for Babies kicks off next Sunday April 29th at Wayne State University.
