Man With 5 Thefts On Record Caught Stealing $465 Belt At Somerset

TROY (CBS Detroit) Troy police say a 22-year-old Detroit man and his female companion, also a 22-year-old Detroiter, snagged a $465 belt from Louis Vuitton inside the Somerset Collection and tried to saunter away nonchalantly.

It happened at 2 p.m. Saturday, and was witnessed by a manager who called police saying he saw the man put the pricey belt inside his pants pocket and leave the store.

Police searched the mall and found the couple.

"The female was wearing the stolen belt when stopped by Troy officers," police said in a press release.

The man was arrested for retail fraud I and a scan of his record discovered he had five previous retail fraud convictions. The woman was arrested for possession of stolen property. She had two outstanding traffic warrants for her arrest out of another area department, Troy police said.
