Man Charged For Handcuffing Mom Inside Garage, Turning On Car

WATERFORD (WWJ) Adam Lutz, 45, of Waterford, is being held in jail on a $1 million bond after police say he locked his 78-year-old mother in the garage with a running car.

Lutz was charged with attempted murder.

"He got into an argument with his mother and he attempted to kill her," said Waterford Police Chief Dan McCaw.

McCaw added the mother and son lived together.

Lutz allegedly forced his mother Gloria into the garage and handcuffed her to a trailer hitch, a chair and a cabinet.

"And then he started the vehicle to let the vehicle run," McCaw said.

The detective added the elderly woman was able to escape after five or six hours and ran to a neighbor's house for help.

Lutz was still at home when officers arrived, and he was placed under arrest.

The victim, Gloria Lutz, was treated at the hospital and released, but McCaw says she's still trying to recover from what happened.
