Man Charged After Setting His Girlfriend On Fire During Argument

FRASER (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man was in court Monday after he allegedly lit his girlfriend on fire in Fraser on Saturday.

Brandon Allen Lovett, 26, was arraigned on attempted murder and other charges in the 39th District Court on Monday.

Lovett and the woman allegedly got into a fight at the Skipper Motel on Groesbeck Highway in Fraser at around 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Lovett was apparently confronting the woman about suspected infidelity, according to the Macomb Daily.

During the argument, Lovett allegedly dowsed the woman's chest in lighter fluid and set her on fire with a lighter.

"She rolled onto the bed to extinguish it, and he just sat there and watched her," Fraser Public Safety Detective Lt. Mike Pettyes told the Macomb Daily.

Lovett then allegedly took the woman's phone from her so she couldn't call police and then fell asleep for around two hours.

Police arrived around 4 a.m. after the woman was able to gain access to her phone and contact authorities. She was taken to a local hospital with burns to her face. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Lovett remains jailed without bond. He was arrested in 2010 for a domestic violence incident.
