Macomb County Man Charged After Infant Son Suffers 'Shaken Baby Syndrome'
WASHINGTON TWP. (WWJ) - A 22-year-old Macomb County man is jailed on a $1 million bond, charged with abusing his infant son.
The 6-month-old boy was rushed to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital Monday afternoon after he suffered injuries at a Washington Township apartment, according to authorities.
Sheriff's officials say the baby had been left in the care of Anthony Tyrese Robinson, his biological father, for most of the day while the mother was at work. When she returned home to the Eagles Landing Apartments, at around 4:15 p.m., the mom saw the condition of the child and called 911.
After assessing the infant, doctors told deputies that they believed the child had injuries consistent with "shaken baby syndrome" — a form of abuse that can result in permanent brain damage or death. The baby was transferred to Children's Hospital in Detroit for further care.
After interviews with the Robinson and the mother and after consultation with doctors, sheriff's detectives arrested Robinson.
He's been charged with one count of first degree child abuse — which carries a potential term of life in prison.
Robinson remains lodged in the Macomb County Jail following an arrangement via video in 42-1 District Court of Romeo Thursday morning. His next court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 9 a.m.
The child remains hospitalized where his current status is unknown.
