Local Businessman Wants To Help In Haiti

The founder of a Ferndale company, who recently returned from Haiti, wants to do more to help the country that is still recovering from a major earthquake ten months ago.

Jack Aronson, the founder of Garden Fresh Gourmet in Ferndale, says he went when he heard about two Americans, Paul Sebring and Paul Waggoner, who are trying to start an emergency medical service in Haiti and keep local hospitals and orphanages stocked with supplies.

"The misery on one end and the plight of these poor people..on the other end these American fellas just doing unbelievable work,"Aronson told WWJ's Beth Fisher.

Aronson says 1.3 million people are living in tents with rubble and garbage everywhere and more than 1,000 people have died from a cholera outbreak.

"There were so many people that just did not have the sanitation and ways to keep their hands clean, they have contaminated water," Aronson said.

Aronson plans to return to Haiti in February and be part of a documentary film that is being made about the two Americans, called Big Paul and Little Paul. He is working to raise money for relief efforts. If you would like to help, click on www.gardenfreshgourmet.com.
