Lawsuit Filed Over Kids Tested For Alcohol In Park
LIVONIA (AP) - Livonia police aren't commenting on a lawsuit that says teens at a school picnic were forced to take an alcohol test after an administrator found an empty liquor bottle in the woods.
The five students from Discovery Middle School in Wayne County's Canton Township denied drinking alcohol in a park and passed the breath test. The American Civil Liberties Union says the test was a "degrading," illegal search by Livonia police.
The ACLU filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Livonia on behalf of a 13-year-old boy. The lawsuit says parents weren't contacted ahead of the test, nor did officers get a warrant.
The lawsuit seeks a financial award and the removal of the boy's name from police records. The Plymouth-Canton school district declined to comment.
