Kroger Plan To Build In Royal Oak On Hold

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A five-hour meeting that included yelling, shouting and accusations of bribery ended with the Royal Oak Planning Committee unable to make a decision on whether to approve a new Kroger store in Royal Oak.

The meeting was vocal on all sides including residents, area business owners and even the Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison.

Ellison later apologized for his remarks but said he takes it personally when allegations (someone in the crowd yelled that he was taking bribes) are brought against him that are totally untrue.

Royal Oak resident Greg Smith told WWJ that based on what the planning commission said the Kroger plan does not meet various codes and ordinances from the city.

The meeting was adjourned and the Kroger issue will likely be addressed at the next meeting.
