Safety Ko Simpson spent most of the Lions' first organized team activity last month standing next to defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham.

Sponging off nearly 40 years of coaching knowledge isn't a bad idea, but Simpson, a four-year veteran, will be the first to admit he'd much rather have been running drills and participating in practice. He, however, isn't able to do any of that just yet.

"I just have to get in the film room and write down everything," Simpson said after watching Thursday's practice. "On the sidelines, I'm talking to Gun and going over Xs and Os, so when I'm able to get out there, it'll be just full-go. That's the best I can do right now."
