Kid Rock Ready To Thrill Hometown At Comerica Park

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Kid Rock announced he'll be playing a hometown concert at Detroit's baseball park this summer.

That's not surprising, considering the 40-year-old Detroit-based musician makes a habit of playing local gigs.

It's how he made the announcement Thursday that was slightly unorthodox.

Rock, Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom and retired Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios used paddle boards to cross the Detroit River to Belle Isle.

A bare-footed Rock then strolled to a beachfront microphone and lectern and said he'd be playing Comerica Park Aug. 12 with opening act Sammy Hagar and the Wabos.

The rocker says Chelios called him a day earlier and asked if he wanted to go paddle-boarding.

Knowing his booking manager wanted him to announce the August show soon, he combined both activities into one.

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. June 11 at Tickets.com, LiveNation.com, the Comerica Park box office and select Meijer stores.

Seats will be $30, $49.50 and $79.50, with upper deck six-packs available for $99. There will also be a VIP package that includes a limited edition Kid Rock Detroit Tigers jersey.

Rock teased the Comerica show on his website last week, sending fans into anticipation by saying he was "looking forward to spending some time at Comerica Park this summer!!...and I'm not just talking about watchin' the Tigers play!!"

Rock played two sold out shows at the ballpark back in 2009 and he celebrated his 40th birthday with a concert at Ford Field this past January.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
