Khang's Blog: UFC 126 Recap

UFC 126 Silva vs. Belfort was this past Saturday and the two big stories were that Anderson Silva retained his middleweight championship belt and Jon Jones defeated Ryan Bader to earn a shot at the light heavyweight championship belt. Jones submitted Bader in the 2nd round and did so fairly easily. I'm not surprised Jones won but I am surprised at how much stronger was than Bader. Jones will now take on Mauricio Rua for the light heavyweight championship. I expect Jones to use his creative striking style and strength to make up for his lack of experience and become the new champion. Now with the Silva vs. Belfort fight I was once again very impressed with Silva for his knockout of Belfort with a front kick but was very disappointed in Belfort. Before the fight he publicly stated he would "come after Silva". That did not happen. In fact Belfort and Silva just circled each other for the first 3 minutes of the fight. It looked like the ring rust affected Belfort and he looked scared to make a move. Silva is a classic counter striker and he caught Belfort off guard. Next for Silva could be a dream fight with welter weight champion George St. Pierre. If St. Pierre is able to beat Jake Shields in his next fight then fight fans will most likely see a "super fight" between Silva and St. Pierre. This would be the biggest fight in MMA history and MMA would be able to do something boxing can't seem to. And that is put together a fight that every fight fan wants to see...Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.
