Jeff Riger: Red Wings News And Notes

The Detroit Red Wings got back to practice Tuesday morning as they prepare for the Nashville Predators and a chance to establish a 2 game winning streak. Even after the Wings thrilling 3-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday night, players and coaches continue to talk about a soft spot of this year's team; letting in too many goals a game. Currently Detroit ranks 19th in the NHL with a 2.91 goals against average which sounds bad but the Wings have been able to score over 3 goals a contest which has allowed them to remain the 2nd best team in the Western conference. When Mike Babcock was asked at practice if his team can fix a dreadful goals against average during the course of the season he replied "sure, I don't know if you have heard of a team called the Green Bay Packers who couldn't stop the run all year long and then could in the playoffs, I don't know, I heard about them! You know I guess everything is possible."

Despite talking about shortcomings, the Wings actually have a lot to be thankful for. Pavel Datsyuk is back with the team after scoring a goal and an assist in that Rangers game while Thomas Holmstrom expects to play Wednesday against the Preds after being out with a broken hand. Valteri Filppula is out Wednesday, he underwent a MRI on his left knee after injuring it on Monday night. Watch the Mike Babcock and Dan Cleary videos below for the entire story. Listen to the Wings take on the Preds Wednesday night at 7:10pm on "The Ticket."
