Jeff Riger: Big Win!
There is no doubt that the Tigers have been scuffling for the last 7 games and the results were evident as Detroit, going into Tuesday night was riding a 7 game losing skid. The Tigers have never lost 8 in a row under current Manager Jim Leyland and that stat doesn't change as Detroit doubles up the Yankees 4-2. Before the game, the team made a roster move where they sent Will Rymes down to the minors to make room for Scott Sizemore who was hitting .408 in Toledo. Of course it's only one game but Sizemore nearly doubled his average going 3 for 4 against C.C. Sabathia and is now hitting a plush .750 going into Wednesday game against the Yankee's Freddy Garcia.
The Tigers also got major contributions from the other two hitters in the top three of their line-up as Austin Jackson got 2 hits, a double and a triple while Magglio Ordonez got a couple singles as well. In fact the Tigers top 3 Tuesday night went 7 for 13 with the majority of the at-bats being against one of the best in the game in Sabathia.
After the contest, Detroit made another move to improve their team significantly as Victor Martinez rejoins the club after being on the disabled list with a strained groin. Brad Penny picked up his 2nd win of the season after allowing just one run through 6 innings while Sabathia fell to 2 and 2. Jose Valverde after a tough outing on Monday night grabbed his 6th save of the season.
Listen to the Tigers take on the Yankees again on Wednesday night on 1270am as Max Scherzer opposes Garcia.
